It is critical to help young children be ready for school by working with them to develop their reading and learning skills. Because strong reading skills form the basis for learning in all subjects, it is important to identify those who struggle with reading as early as possible.
The United Way of the Pennyrile is a proud supporter of the Imagination Library in Christian County as well as the Christian County Literacy Council.
We also see the value of community programs and are a proud Partner in Education with Pembroke Elementary School through the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.
Trigg County Schools was one of the original United Way Born Learning grant recipients in 2015 and they continue the program today. The curriculum promotes school readiness and literacy while providing a new tool for engaging community partners. A series of six parent workshops delivered in classroom settings outfit families with best practices for ongoing engagement with their young children. Across the country, the United Way Born Learning initiative has helped more than 15 million parents of children under 6 understand how to use everyday moments as learning opportunities.
